Gillian Smart, BBC Scotland weather presenter, said the wintery conditions were likely to be short-lived.
"The latest from the Met Office in Aberdeen is that we could indeed see a touch of grass frost in some of the most sheltered Highland glens on Thursday morning,” she said in a report on the BBC website.
"It'll be very short-lived, mind you, as the Sun's up so early.
"Tomorrow, there could be some sleet/wet snow over the highest mountain peaks.
"Daytime temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday will be 13 to 16C, the average for the time of year is 15 to 18, so below average but not a rarity to see temperatures this low in July."
"Certainly rubbish summer weather, though, and bearing in mind last Wednesday we hit 29.4C. What a difference a week makes."
