Guitar World Record

Every year on Wroclaw’s market square the “Thanks Jimi Festival” is held. As part of the event a Guinness World Record attempt is taking place in the category of the largest number of guitarists playing to Jimi Hendrix’s song “Hey Joe”. This year, the Guitar World Record event will be also held in Britain for the first time.

The Festival was founded in Wroclaw in 2003, when Leszek Cichonski came up with the idea of commemorating the life and music of Jimi Hendrix by organising a guitar festival.

There is no doubt that Jimi Hendrix was a guitar genius. His musical experiments went down in history. No-one before him had ever played that way. Even today, many years after his demise, every aspirant guitarist wants to play like him.

Let’s go back now to the Guitar World Record topic and see how you can get involved in the event held in Great Britain. But why do we call it a Guitar World Record instead of a Guinness World Record? This stems from the fact that Guinness World Record, according to its regulations, has to be held (and broken) at the same time and in the same place (in this case the market square in Wroclaw). Bearing this in mind, the organizers decided to attempt to break the world record for the largest number of guitarists playing Jimi Hendrix’s song “Hey Joe”. Over the past few years the representatives from Sweden, Norway, Italy, Germany, France and Australia took part in the event.

Among the players were many musicians like Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Ray Wilson (ex-Genesis), Todd Wolf (Sheryl Crow guitarist), Marcus Miller, Leon Hendrix, Al Di Meola, Tommy Emmanuel, Ten Years After, Neil Zaza, Greg Koch, Stan Skibby and also Polish big names like Pawel Kukiz, Grzegorz Markowski, Marek Piekarczyk (TSA), Maciej Balcar (Dzem), Zbigniew Holdys, Gienek Loska, Sebastian Riedel, Marek Raduli, Jaroslaw Smietana, Ryszard Sygitowicz, Alek Mrozek, Jorgos Skolios, Lukasz Lyczkowski and Leszek Cichonski Titus (Acid Drinkers), Litza (Luxtorpeda), L.U.C, , Mieczyslaw Jurecki (ex-Budka Suflera )

The first Bristol Festival, and the first Guitar World Record breaking attempt in playing the guitar together on British Isles, will take place on Saturday, April 27th 2013 and will be recorded and televised three days later during the original Wroclaw Festival on May 1st.
